Connolly Asks for More Oversight of USPS Delivering for America Plan

Keep US Posted applauds Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), an inaugural recipient of the 2023 Benjamin Franklin Award, for continuing to display extraordinary leadership on U.S. Postal Service issues. In response to a woefully inadequate May 17 hearing on the USPS Delivering for America plan that featured Postmaster General Louis DeJoy as the only witness, Rep. Connolly joined with Government Operations Subcommittee Ranking Member Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) in sending a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the full Oversight Committee seeking additional hearings on a range of major concerns with the Delivering for America plan, including the impact of its rate increases on the health of the customer base.

"Given the failure of the plan to achieve key metrics more than two years after its implementation including increasingly alarming mail volume losses, the letter recognizes that more oversight is needed of the postal service to ensure that it does not face yet another financial crisis," said Keep US Posted Executive Director Kevin Yoder, a former Republican member of Congress from Kansas. "Rep. Connolly has once again demonstrated that he takes his oversight responsibility for the USPS seriously and is setting a standard his colleagues on the Oversight Committee should follow."
